What was the first sign of trouble there? Did it blow or did the smell of the dead gopher get to someone?

From the discoloration of the soil, especially on the HV side, I suspect that the padmount was overheating and venting some oil at least...

Wow. It looks like an ant farm on steroids!

All that dirt had to have been brought up from underground, so there must be quite a catacomb system down there.

I was thinking the same thing, all that dirt is missing from somewhere.

Even disconnecting this so it can be lifted off for clean out will be a real pain.

The pile of dirt outside sure looks like more then would fit in the transformer but what other explanation is there? :-?

All the more reason for a Padmount Inspection Program. Our local power company sent me these pictures since we do the inspection for them. They asked if we were using ant poison still...:D
