Hi forum,

I have experience with NYC code, but not with NJ.
New Jersey state code, the Uniform Construction Code are applied for a restaurant I am designing (07073 zip code).
I read the SECTION BC 907 FIRE ALARM AND DETECTION SYSTEMS. Per my understanding the NJ code, if a sprinkler protection is provided in electrical, mechanical, transformer room the smoke detectors are not required in occupancy A and B (even in high rise).

Is it correct? You do not usually see smoke detectors in electrical, mechanical, transformer rooms (occupancy A and B)?

Thank you in advance

Detectors are required. See 907.2.12.

Based on 907.2.12 , smoke detectors are not required (in case rooms are sprinkled). SD is required only in rooms related in elevator.

My question was is it really a common case in field.

Take heat detectors in a kitchen for example. Engineers tend to provide heat detectors in kitchen though in many cases they are not required by local code.
