I saw these items at HD the other day. Does anyone have any experience or opinion on them. When would it be appropriate to use these? Bundling? Is that good idea? Can the other be used to repair rodent eaten cables?

Experience? No.

Opinion. I would not use either one of these products. I do not have the 'need' for them.

These being sold to DIYers scares me.

I view these as 'bandaid' products.

The bundling tape is nothing more than re-branded duct tape. This is from 3M:

Scotch? Electricians 2000-Duct-Tape

This is a 6 mil general purpose easy tear vinyl duct tape. This tape is used for general holding and bundling.

No it's not 'duct tape' it is electricians bundling tape.

Before if I used duct tape I was a hack, now I have electricians bundling tape so I can be a professional ........... gotta love marketing ........ I bet it costs more per roll.:D

Would you buy this product? It is to most people just a high quality duct tape.

In searching 3M website for product in OP I believe it is same product as this just in a different package with different label. UPC numbers and other product numbers are the same. You are more likely to find this package at a supply house instead of a home center.

The liquid tape product probably has some good uses also. I have never used the product in the OP, I have used 3M's Scotchkote - mostly to repair minor dings in insulation of underground conductors, like when digging in an area where existing conductors are buried and causing minor damage to the insulation when you do find them.

As for bundling I would rather use cable ties or other mechanical methods.

I may possibly use the tape in question for temporary bundling coductors at the end in preparation to pulling them through a raceway. I have used other types of duct tape for the same before.

Yep, re-branding and higher prices are just ways to dupe the ignorant public. As an example take a look at OTC medications. You can buy Excedrin Migraine Formula for a few more dollars than the same exact medicine in a bottle that just says Excedrin.

Not familiar with Excedrine but have seen Tylenol arthritis. Appeared to be same product with higher dosage per tablet. Of course you could take more tablets of product at lower dosage and get same result. What you really need to figure out is which cost less taking one high dosage pill or 2 or 3 low dosage pills.

Not to split hairs .... but I'm actually familiar with both products.

The "Liquid electrical tape" has its' uses, especially when you want a taped connection to be either more moisture resistant, or you want to make sure the tape doesn't peel loose. Compared to Skotch-kote, it's not nearly as messy, or as effective. Sure looks prettier, though.

The tape is sort of 'imitation duct tape.' That is, there's no cloth backing; it's embossed vinyl. I have tried it, and much prefer the old style.
