I'm looking to install a 3phase 480V service in a small shop. The only equipment that the owner is looking to use is a 3phase 480V 50 amp grinder and a 120/240 1phase panel for lighting and outlets.I'm told that no further expansion is anticipated, would most here feel that a 200 A service would suffice? I realize this is a vague question, but I can't see trying to sell a 400A service. Thanks.

If that is a small shop then a 480 volt 3 phase 200 amp panel is a massive service, IMO

True, but my thought was if they were to increase production and add a second grinder then a 100A service would already be undersized.Guess maybe the route to go is sell them what they want now and if needs change sell them something bigger.
