New splicing technique

I'm unsure how long it was in operation, as you said Dennis, it probably worked for years, but as I tightened this "Sandwich" of wires (The connection didn't look that tight) one of the conductors kind of oozed out from under the head of the screw. There was also a receptacle in the basement wired with zip cord but I didn't get a shot of it.

That's not new, I see them all of the time in old houses. Like Dennis said they've been working for many years without a problem. Go figure.

As long as there's enough contact and it isn't loose, it's pretty amazing what will work without a problem. It just goes to show how much "wiggle room" there is with splices and terminations, which helps the DIY's. ;)

Here's another method.

Yup, it's a plastic anchor, installed by a landscaper.

That's true. I've always said that after seeing catastrophes in the field on a daily basis there is no way that the work we do will ever cause a problem. I'm amazed that there aren't more electrical fires.
