Question has come up about wiring methods for a water tower. I believe it has to be in rmc, but cannot find anything in the nec relating to water tower eletrical wiring, any help would be appreciated.

You could use almost any wiring method depending on how subject to physical damage the inspector feels it is subject to.

We usually just run rigid up the side and beam clamp it to the ladder or seams that make up the tank sections.

Norm,

I designed a lot of power installs at water storgae tanks. I use RGS on exterior mounted to the ladder all the way up to the top for radio or beacon light. The RGS is good protection from vandalism. If the tank has the ladder on the inside we still use RGS as well, but if the town is tight on money use EMT or PVC sch 80. Might get damp on the inside.
