Ran across this today, looks like they took the technology of the ground box outlets, and put it in decks now.

Ha had one in our plan not like yours that was in park outdoor on grass in ground. Never seen something like that. Got rejected in our AHJ too much risk public safety

Even though it was a listed burial box with receptacle.
Supposably due to its “bell” design, it will not get water up into the receptacle.

Yes we had accident in AHJ although listed best not to use it that was the decision. Lawyer in the end blamed AHJ not UL said AHJ still should not allow it even though it was pointed out to the lawyer listed equipment are allowed 110.3(b).

Any word on how the manufacturer of that product was affected?
One of my last CEU classes a manufacturer showed us a product like that. Think is was Wiremold.
Even though we knee jerked and shook our heads, his explanation seemed to make sense.

They've been out for a year or so. I haven't seen/used any, just remember someone posting a link, which I think had a video. It might have been on another forum, can't recall for sure.

I saw this thing advertised a while back. Seems like a good solution if you had a large deck and needed an receptacle away from a wall. I just wonder how they get around the fact that the NEC does not permit cord as a wiring method. This reminds of the debate over the TV receptacle that had a cord and it was eventually was specifically put in the NEC to accommodate them.

I believe they "get around" this because the SJOOW is part of the UL listed device, thereby not a wireing method.

True, but when the TV outlet came out using a similar approach many AHJs and electricians threw fits over it. For the TV thing they finally just put it in the code.
