I am puzzled by this code below, I'm not sure if I'm overthinking it:

I thought we cannot mix optional standby loads with emergency loads. Based on the code above, how exactly do they want it to be wired?
 
It says that they need to be capable of carrying those loads. It sounds like that would be under a temporary condition where they would be temporarily connected.

It doesn't say that it has to be connected either. We've installed optional standby generators and there is no connection to the emergency generator.

1 generator can be used for both optional and emergency power. So you are saying that if I buy a generator and use it only for optional power, I must make sure the generator will also supply emergency power for the future even though I'm not connecting any emergency loads to the generator?
