hey everyone, i just recently took my 4th year apprentice test and i had a question that was on the test that i can not find an answer to. i hope that i am posting this under the right place. the testing format was somewhat less than desirable but that is complaining for another post. anyway the question was this:

The NEC gaurds against ___________ on all equipment used for the transprotation of people.

a. phase loss
b. phase reversal
c. phase unbalance

if someone could help me out i would be really grateful.

I do not understand that question at all. For starters, the nec does not "guard" anything. It just provides the rules. Also, the NEC does not apply to cars, buses, trains, or other things that transport people. The only context in which "equipment" could be used to transport people would be elevators, escalators, lifts, and the like. That would be covered in article 620. I looked quickly through 620, and did not find anything related to the question. But if I had to hazard a guess, I would say that phase reversal would be a bad thing in an elevator, in that it would make Up become Down.

Welcome to the forum. Let us know if you find out the answer.

i am glad that i am not the only one who thought the question was kind of screwy. most of the test questions were worded really funny but i thought about article 620 as well and read through the entire section while taking my test and didn't see anything so after sitting and fussing over it for a while i put b-phase reversal and figured that hopefully that won't be the one that puts me on the failing side of things. i don't think so though. anyway any other insight to it would be great.
