We recently were told that Honolulu has adopted the 2012 NFPA 1, and that all trunk cables and fireman's phone jack cables have to be 2 hour rated. Is this true, and does it apply to all applications?

I'm not sure what you mean by trunk cables, but since NFPA 1 incorporates NFPA 72 by reference, the fireman's jack cables must be 2-hour fire rated using any one of the several means listed. Also, if the occupancy does not require immediate evacuation of all those on the premises or uses relocation/areas of refuge, all notification means must meet the same requirements (strobe circuits, speaker circuits, etc.). This does not necessarily mean the signal line circuit (SLC, addressable systems) or indicating device circuit (IDC, conventional systems) have to be likewise protected, unless they are critical for maintaining the notification means.
