Hello all. I am trying to feel out opinions on FA cabling in California. I was told by the local AHJ to adhere to NFPA 1221 Ch.5 when asking local for input on free air (Horizontal only) cabling for fire alarm in a Type IIIB construction. I am perplexed as to why they would quote NFPA 1221 (Emergency Comms) which obviously has completely different requirements than Fire Alarm.
Upon review of NFPA 70 / NEC 2017 it seems abundantly clear that I can and that the AHJ seems to be providing vague information to avoid liability. Does anyone have any input or experience with this?
Here is what i have from NFPA 70 / NEC 2017
