NFPA-72 Class A separation

We installed a Class A fire alarm system and under NFPA - 72 Section 6.4.2.2.2 it states that all outgoing and return circuits shall be installed in separate enclosures or raceways, this we did but we did not follow the 6.4.2.2.2 annex of the 1' verticle and 4' horizontal separation as this was not specified in the specs or job documents. My question is do we have to adhere to the annex if it was not actually specified?

The annex is not enforcable.

There are exceptions in that seciton to NFPA 72 for shorter type runs
