Hi,

Is there a product anyone can recommend for starting/stopping pumps that fill the tank? The sensor would have to be NFPA 72 listed.

Thanks,
FF

Assuming its water, as stated in title.

Standard float switch...http://www.anchorscientific.com/roto-float.htm

or

Side mount single point level switch...https://www.gemssensors.com/level/single-point-level-switches/float/side-mount/engineered-plastic

You would want two. One to start the pumps at low level, and one to stop the pumps at high level. What voltage are the pumps and how are you starting them currently? These switches are typically pilot duty, which means they shouldn't be used to start a single phase motor directly, unless it is very low fractional horsepower (1/16 or 1/32). The contacts will be welded closed and you will have a much different problem. You need to use the float to drive a relay or small starter.

It needs to be UL listed. NFPA 72 is first, not a listing standard and second, is for fire alarm and mass communication systems. You'd be dealing with NFPA 13, "Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems" and NFPA 22 "Standard for Water Tanks for Fire Protection". The only thing the fire alarm might touch would be a low level float switch that sends a supervisory signal to the Central Station. Check the web sites of Reliable, Viking, and Potter Roemer for suitable switches. Use "sprinkler" as part of the search string.
