Can a (down) conductor connected to a 60' flood light pole mounted lightning rod be run inside the pole?

Can a (down) conductor connected to a 60' flood light pole mounted lightning rod be run inside the pole?

Without any specific knowledge of applicable codes, I can say that it should not be inside a ferrous metal pole. If the pole is aluminum, I can't give any advice.

It's a steel two-piece slip fit pole.
