Can anyone tell me what this article sais as far as the STandard for Parking structures is concerned? The NEC refers you to the NFPA 88A-1995 which I do not currently have a copy of. To narrow it down I am looking for wording reguarding underground parking garages and the type of conduit allowable.I know it is a Class I Division II location.
Thanks
Tom

Re: NFPA 88A-1995

From reading nfpa 88 a parking structre does not come under a classfied area. it also states this in the nec in article 511.3. the only time these are classified is if this area is used for repair or storage of flamamble liquids.
511.3 Classifications of Locations.
(A) Unclassified Locations. Parking garages used for parking or storage and where no repair work is done except exchange of parts and routine maintenance requiring no use of electrical equipment, open flame, welding, or the use of volatile flammable liquids are not classified.
The storage, handling, or dispensing into motor vehicles of alcohol-based windshield washer fluid in areas used for the service and repair operations of the vehicles shall not cause such areas to be classified as hazardous (classified) locations.
FPN No. 1: For further information, see NFPA 88A-1998, Standard for Parking Structures and NFPA 88B-1997, Standard for Repair Garages.
FPN No. 2: For further information, see 8.3.5 of NFPA 30A, Code for Motor Fuel Dispensing Facilities and Repair Garages.

Re: NFPA 88A-1995

Thanks for replying caj1962,
In article 511-3 (b) of the NEC it sais that "Any pit or depression below floor level shall be considered Class I division I. Except in areas in which six air changes per hour are exhausted at floor level of the pit shall be judged be the enforcing agency to be class I division II location."
I interpret this to include underground parking garages, of which I am refering to. That is where I interpreted the Class I division II from.
What I am trying to determine is where does the code require HW pipe in parking garages. I have always installed HW and would like to reference where it is worded acordingly. Does it say that in the NFPA 88A-1998 Standard for Parking structures?
