The following section is in regard to the critical branch of the essential electrical system for category 1 spaces: NFPA 99, section 6.7.5.1.3.2(1): category 1 spaces where deep sedation or general anesthesia is administered, task illumination, select receptacles, and fixed equipment
I am working on an MRI/Radiation suite and I am curious if the MRI system itself needs to be on the critical branch or just certain lighting, and receptacles. Part of me thinks the code above mandates it's on critical as it is a fixed piece of equipment, but the other part of me thinks it doesn't need to be on since no operation is going on when a patient is undergoing an MRI.
