I am in the process of bringing my company into compliance with NFPA70E. We are adopting the two category system as recommended by 70E, requiring all of our electricians to show up for work each day dressed to accomodate a hazard/risk category 2. In situations where category 2 clothing is required, yet which don't require a hard hat and face shield, would they be required to remove their NON FR rated ball caps prior to beginning work? Many of our electricians wear ball caps on a daily basis, yet I am having a difficult time locating anyone who sells FR rated ball caps. If you are aware of the requirements here, or can help me locate an FR rated ball cap, please respond.

Westex has FR ball caps (I am wearing one now) made from the Indura Ultra soft material. They dont have a cal/cm2 rating because there is not a testing standard for FR hats, so you will not find a hat with a cal/cm2 rating anywhere.

I dont think wearing a non meltable ball cap is a problem, I let our guys wera them if they are 100% cotton.

HRC 2 always requires an electrical rated hard hat and arc rated face shield.
