Nickel-plated wire...

A client I'm doing work for told me that the conductors feeding his existing furnace are nickel-plated implying he wants to use the same type of conductor for the (2) new, larger furnaces. These new circuits are parallel 3/0s, but I have not been able to find a cable mfg that produces large nickel-plated wire.

I'm going to the site next week and can dig something up thru investigation, but I'd like to get a lead on a mfg.

Anyone have mfg in mind?

I've always had good results with Anixter. All kinds of speciality wire. No minimums (for us), quick service, nationwide. Bring your checkbook . . .

Sure your customer isnt looking at plain old tinned wire?

Best Wishes

He specifically said nickel, but he's not an electric guy either, so that leaves a lot of room for interpretation.

Thanks.

PS: I grew up in the swamps across the river from you and south a few miles.

I might be talking out of my arse here, but I think that guy must be mistaken. The last thing I would want to plate feeders with is a magnetic metal like Nickel. Every time the furnace turns on or off, you're gonna know about it frm the feeders trying to jump out of the conduits. I'm with Highwirey on this one...he probably means tin.

I've run a good bit of that nickel wire. It's actually nickel plated copper, but it's not uncommon for people to think it's all nickel. It is purposely for high temperature applications. The NEC calls it "TGGT". It's available up to 500 MCM, and most wire and cable manufacturers make it.
