I was in a company today and noticed OLFLEX servo 709 CY cable #1 awg run on a NIEDEX cable ladder system mounted on the wall about 7' high from the floor. This cable was running from a control cabinet that had a VFD in it to a 125 HP motor 480 volts, the motor was about 30" away.
My question is can you use flexible cable in this manner?
I know about 403.22 and 430.250 to size the conductors for a motor, just never seen an installation using flexible cable to a motor.

I can't speak to the exact nature of that type of wire but this in fact is not unusall in an industrial setting to have a cable ladder system. Sometimes the application lends itself for the purpose of the instulation, or a better fix in stand alone usuage.

In most modern plants it's frankly just SOP. Article Three Hundred has it as a wiring method and they tend to get very creative in suppling the circuit service and even smarts to the machines.
