What code articals would cover this. Can you knock out a hole in a out door panel near the top on the side to join up with meter base hole.Someone says no unless its with a water tight hub? I was planning on a 2" male adapter and pvc?Guy says you can only use pre stamped hole knockout on a outdoor box is this new or I been mushroomed again?

Re: Nipple on outdoor panel?

In a 3R enclosure all of the prestamped knockouts are below the live parts and you can use standard locknuts for the conduit terminations. If there is room to punch holes in other loctions, it is my opinion that a watertight hub would be required.

Re: Nipple on outdoor panel?

I`ve used Meyers hubs and also have used pvc MA`S and a nipple, never been gigged for either but I prefer the meyers hubs.JMHO

Re: Nipple on outdoor panel?

 i like myers hubs also.another thing to use is a sealing locknut. they have arubber gasket bonded to them, better than a standard locknut, way cheaper than a myers hub. but i would never use them to go into the top of an outdoor enclosure.

Re: Nipple on outdoor panel?

Thanks I`ve never been probed by the inspectors for this but I was told It was a no no with no references by city ajh. The reason I knock out near top is for appearence to make both tops even( panel and meter can)He did go ahead and pass the job.Even said it was very neat but I shouldn`t knock out a outdoor panel again at top.

So is this a code violation? Don`t want to do this anymore if so. Thanks

Re: Nipple on outdoor panel?

I have used PVC MA`s and nipples with out meyers hubs,or sealing lock nuts have not been tagged but I think it should have been but it passed?
