Anyone take the NJ license exam recently (2008-ish)? I go on July 7th & I *think* I am aware of and ready for the what the Electrical portion of the exam entails, know I am ready for the business portion of the exam but am pretty much in the dark for the Alarm side of the Fire/Alarm portion of the test, I got the "Security" book that they reference portions of the test to but IMHO I do not think it will do me any good trying to randomly fish through this thing, it is a very detailed book with a TON of info in it.

While we are at it...do you recall roughly how many actual calculation questions and in what areas (box fill, motor efficiency, service calc's, pipe fill etc...) were on the exam? It is good practice to skip all these and do all the code book questions first correct?

Thanks!

I took the exam in january, some of the information you need for the alarm test can be found in the nec I would read over article 760. I would also look over the nfac.

As far as the nec read the question don't assume anything they do try to trick you, I found it helpful to read the question, then read the answers then re-read the question. I actually did the calcs first just beacuse I had them fresh in my mind. They have alot of questions on motors and grounding and bounding know these sections. Also I recall one or two questions on box fill and a two or three on conduit fill.

They give that test early in the morning so make sure you have a good breakfast. I stay in the hotel the night before so that I didn't have to worry about traveling in the morning

Good luck

Thanks for the info!

T minus 2 weeks from today so it's crunch time, I took a couple days off this week and the end of next week so I study hard till July 7th. No 4th of July fun for me this year.

I already have the hotel room booked ;)
