Do they give you a copy of nfpa-72 for the alarm portion of the nj test? I hate going and buying one! I really don't think I will ever have a need for it after I take the test .Also does anyone know if i can highlight my business reference book? thanks for any input or comments. My nj test is next week

njsucks,
I like NJ.
When I took the test, about 12 years ago, they did not provide any reference materials. I don't know the current policy. It does not matter if you buy the book for the test and never use it again. Anything you must spend to get your license is well worth the investment. Stop complaining.
All of my books were hi-lighted and tabbed. I belive this is still permitted, and I recommend it.
I like NJ.

Likewise with me (13 years ago, my own highlighted and tabbed NEC & law book).....BUT...
...time s change.
You CANNOT use your own NEC - you get to "rent" one for $5....what a scam!

hmmmm...after reading that pdf some more....it seems you CAN bring the NEC(NFPA 70) and the FAC (NFPA 72), but you cannot bring a LV book.

Mr. Holt made the "Do Not Bring" list:
The following reference material will NOT be allowed in the exam room.

2. Mike Holt's Illustrated Guide to Basic Electrical Theory,
Second Edition, 2004, Mike Holt Enterprises, Inc., 7310
West McNab Road, Suite #201, Tamarac, FL 33321
www.NECcode.com.

That's the book to use as a study guide!
:)

they mailed me that a while ago,it says it is allowed in the room but if they give you their code book to use they aren't going to give me thier copy of nfpa-72 for the alarm test? is it worth it for me to buy one?

Well, if you don't buy one, and they don't provide one, you run a pretty high risk of failing that part of the test.
Is it worth it for you to buy one? You decide....

Yes you are allowed to highlight tab your books, as well as underlining. But you can not write any equations/ formulas into your books.

you can also bring your own books into the exam if they are on the list the state gave you, nec, nfpa, nj business law.
