Is there any reason NM cable can not be used in a church that is framed with wood (standard stick built with dimensional lumber)?

Also, 334.10(3) references being concealed in walls with a thermal barrier material of at least 15 minute finish rating. Does type X drywall meet that requirement or are they talking about something else?

It probably can be used in the church building but not in assembly halls of over 100 people.

518.1 Scope. Except for the assembly occupancies explicitly
covered by 520.1, this article covers all buildings or portions of
buildings or structures designed or intended for the gathering
together of 100 or more persons for such purposes as deliberation,
worship, entertainment, eating, drinking, amusement,
awaiting transportation, or similar purposes.

I’ve lost more than one Church building to the romex jockeys! And yes, they were over 100 capacity. No code enforcement except for septic tanks. They can’t get away with it now. I did get a few though that the parishioners wanted it done right.

But wouldn’t 518.4(B) allow the use of romex in areas other than a fire wall with a designed fire rating?
