Hi everyone, I am here again. We have a 8-story mixed used building whose cellar is utility space, ground floor is commercial tenant space and residential lobby, 2nd floor - 8th floor are residential dwelling units. The architectural plans list the cellar - 4th floor is type IA construction, 4th - 8th floor is type IIIB construction. If the 4th floor is concrete slab. My question is whether you can use Romex in dwelling units on 4th floor? whether you can use Romex in dwelling units on 5th-8th floor?
I understand NM cable is allowed for multi-family structures that are permitted to be type III, IV, V construction type even they are constructed in type I, II. For example, you can use NM cable for an existing structure that were constructed in IA type but renovated to a muti-family building that is permitted to be type III, IV, V per building code. But since this is a new building let's just assume cellar -4th floor has to be IA type and 4th-8th floor is permitted to be type IIIB for this building. I will confirm with the architects for more details.
Thank you!
