NY City only recently switched from a city written electric code to an NEC (1999) based electric code with amendments in 2003. NM is permitted in homes, but it was reported that this was previously not permitted (with most homes wired with AC cable).
Do any local electricians or inspectors know if this is only a recent change, as I didn't keep older codes.
[P.S. I looked at the 1987 and 1992 editions I have at work, and they both allow the NM. Also, someone else indicated it's allways been allowed but may have been considered "subject to damage" with the typical basements here in the northeast]
Any thoughts?
