NM cable in outdoor conduit

I've always heard it is not allowed to run nm cable in conduit outdoors but ok indoors. But is it ok to run UF cable in conduit outdoors? If so, why? Thank you.

Because UF is wet location rated.

You can run cables in conduit as long as you follow conduit fill rules...which can be quite a pain sometimes. Both NM and UF are permitted in conduit.

However, conduit outdoors is considered a wet location, and you are not permitted to run NM in a wet location.

Yes, when you apply the rules, you need a much larger conduit then you think you would.
