I have a residential job, and a gas line was ran to the new fireplace in the living room. My NM cable is ran in the same bored hole as the gas line coming from the attic down the wall. Is this a code violation? I searched the code book and found 300.8, but did not think that NM cable was a raceway or a cable tray...Not sure if I'm looking at this right???

Your last part is correct in what it says. For a comparison though, the bored hole would compare to the "raceway" in section 300.8. As in, replace the first three words of 300.8 with "bored hole". Even then, an NM cable is not equivalent to "electrical conductors" in that section. The code is very specific.

All that said, what you describe isn't a violation on the national scale. Unless there is an obscure code in your area, then I would assume you are fine.
