Hello folks, I am working on a multifamily project that has a concrete podium for ground level parking, and then wood framed construction for 5 floors. (I know, 5 floors of wood; no thanks:?)

I am looking to run PVC sleeves to get to the islands in the kitchens, and pull MC cable to the island.

Others feel NM cable should be fine.

My first response was the classification of the parking garage, open garages get treated as damp locations and we use compression fittings all around. So I felt the slab may be considered damp as well, and the NM cable may cause the inspector to fail the project.

My second question here is that I also see the podium as a class I or II structure, in which NM cable is not allowed. We would never put PVC in the slab for the garage fixtures and pull NM cable.

I think because the conduits are only accessible from the wood framed level above the podium, that the same wiring method applies.

Thanks in advance.

If the conduit is not in concrete on grade then it is not in a wet location.

Which mean you can install PVC conduit with NM cable. If you want to get fancy install UF cable in the PVC conduit.

Remember, the distinction in the code is not whether the structure is Class I or II, it is whether or not it is required to be Class I or II.
