I'm presently rewiring a commercial block building w/ a steel roof. Part of this building is a tire warehouse, and part is customer service counter, w studded walls and drop ceiling. The previous contractor wired the entire building in NM romex. I've removed most of the wiring in the high ceiling warehouse areas, but not sure if it needed to be removed. The permitted uses seem to allow NM cable anywhere where there is no moisture, and physical damage. As far as I know, I can install non metallic sheathed cables in the studded walls; but 334.12(A)(2) prohibates non metallic sheathed cables in non residential areas above drop ceilings, but I've seen this done many times and passed inspection. Am I missing something in this code? I'm planning on installing EMT and MC cables in the warehouse areas, but not sure about non warehouse areas till I hear from the local Inspector.
