NM in 2 locations

334.10(3) allows me to use Nm in other types of structures as long as concealed within walls floors ceilings that have a thermal barrier.
Nm cable in a basement ceiling would need to covered with a thermal barrier? It could not be run exposed in the floor joists from where it comes down from walls above and over to electrical panel?
Nm cable in attics where there is air handling equipment? Attic trusses with sheet rock ceiling below OSB for roof decking and shingles above that. The Nm cable that is run in attic burried by the insulation is it legal? Does insulatin have a thermal burrier? Lighting in the attic trusses can it be Nm if ran along face of truss or does it need to be enclosed.

most attics are required access, you said the attic has equipment if there is access than the wiring is exposed

Around here a commercial basement with a electrical panel would need to be finished or the cable would need to be sleeved.

Thats more of a gray area, here if the attic does not have a permanent stairway and the ceiling below is fire rated they allow it.
