There is a prevelant wiring method in this area with prefab sun porches.
NM is installed in an aluminum basebord which has a cover, Wiremold boxes are used for devices. The NM is often secured within the raceway as it enters the box. I have been accepting this wiring method as I can not point to any particular violation (perhaps another member can), but it would seem that some sort of bushing should be used as the cable enters the box. I thought perhaps a Wiremold 703(?) , but those bushings say they are dsigned to fit the end on the raceway.
Any input or ideas (or Code references)?

Do the pre fab panels have any kind of label, such as UL? Or are they wired after installtion? Otherwise NEC 2005 314.17(B) last sentence requires cables to be secured to metal boxes.

What I have done is to add a 3 inch piece of the wiremold into the wiremold box. This will sleeve the nm cable into box, then you can bush the raceway.

Mistermudd..they are wired after installation

dennis: that's a good idea. I will propose that along with mudd's NEC requirement to the contractor.

We typically use a mouse fitting (BW17 or B17)

ETA:
See below....the above # is incorrect.

I would think if you have a strap just before the NM cable entered the short pice of wiremold it would be supported quite well. It probably would not fit the letter of the code but we sleeve cables in conduit quite often.

Wiremold Mouse

Wiremold Mouse

The proper number for the Wiremold mouse fitting is:V5785

I have used them many times but I am not sure that would fit in the baseboard.
This whole install is a bit suspect to me. If it is a retro how is the cable support as Augie says. If this has a baseboard cover than I think an entire wiremold system may be what is needed or perhaps conduit.

How deep is this baseboard, etc???

I have used WM boxes for switches, receptacles, and J-boxes beneath upper kitchen cabinets, and I used slitted 1/8" i.d. rubber tube as grommets.

How does that comply with 314.17(B)?

You don't get a lot of inspections do you?

My guess is the inspector just doesn't look under the cabinet.:)

Actually, not only the inspector, but his boss, too.

Wouldn't this fall under 386?
