I am doing a 600amp service change shortly. There is no GEC (grounding electrode conductor) installed now. I will need to install one when I do the change. The cold water pipe is about 300' away. Do I need to run the GEC all the way over to it? Could I bond to the building steal in the electrical room and then bond from the cold water pipe to the building steal at the cold water pipe location.

Just checking out my options.
TIA

Yes, that would be the way I would do it. You can interconnect grounding electrodes to create the grounding electrdoe system, you don't have to run an individual GEC to each electrode.

agree, but note the steel must meet the requirements of 250.52(A)(2)
as to it being effectively grounded.
