I am using a disconnect switch which is not load break; that is, not to be operated under any load. I understand that switch is not capable of handling the arc resulted from opening/closing the contacts.
My question is: what if bus is not dead (load exists) but both load and source have the same voltage. To further clarify, this is the main disconnect switch on a DC bus that feeds an inverter which is already pre-charged using another smaller set of contacts. Pre charge voltage is just about the same DC line voltage. Of course, since pre-charge voltage can never reach 100% of DC voltage, closing the main contact will still result in a small current arc (a few Millie-amps; disconnect is rated 1200A).
thanks
