A costumer wants me to install lights that dont have a U.L. listing i brought this up to my supervisor and he sayed we were going to overlooke it this time.
I dont think we should install them what do you think?

A listing is not required but they do have to be approved. In Indianapolis, the electrical contractor has to sign a self certification document that says that he did everything correctly. That means that the electrician has the responsibility to approve his materials.

In most areas, the electrical inspector will inspect the building and approve the installation. This inspection will meet the definition of approving a non-listed fixture. :D

See 110.2 for approval factors and a rule often considered by the AHJ who wants to avoid problems when questions arise after a fire or electrical accident.

Use listed products....
