The company I work for is adding a 3 phase panel in order to power a piece of equipment. There is already an existing single phase panel. The new panel will not be in the same room as the existing. I checked with the county code informent group an they said it would be fine as long as the mains were labeled.

I'm assuming this means that at each panel I need to place a label saying there is another panel. Does anyone know what the verbage would be on such a label?

Re: "non grouped mains" labeling

230.2(E) Identification. Where a building or structure is supplied by more than one service, or any combination of branch circuits, feeders, and services, a permanent plaque or directory shall be installed at each service disconnect location denoting all other services, feeders, and branch circuits supplying that building or structure and the area served by each. See 225.37.

This section requires the permanent plaque or directory but does not give any guidance as to the size or verbiage. Personally, I like the layered plastic signs that are engraved like name signs on office cubicles, MCCs and the like. You need to put something together and run it by the AHJ before putting a lot of cash into something he doesn't like. :D
