I am looking at an installation that has AB 1794 IO modules installed in Class I Div 2 area, in a Nema 3R box. The AB 1794 equipment is listed for Class I, Div 2 locations, and the UL CoC lists it as Nonincendive Electrical Equipment.
My understanding is that Nonincendive electrical equipment can be installed in Class I Div 2 area without a control drawing, and is not required to be supplied from a NI power supply, and circuits connected to the equipment are not necessarily required to be NI.
For instance - an field device which is explosion-proof is wired to my AB 1794 IO module. The IO Module is NI Equipment. The between the device and the IO module can be installed per 501.10(B) methods, up and until the field device, where I will need a seal fitting and (if needed) explosion-proof fittings between the seal and the device.
However, if I install a NI field device and wire it to my IO module, then I need to wire per the field device's control drawing, and in accordance with 501.10(B)(3).
Is this correct?
