My father-in-law wants me to wire up his home in North Carolina in trade for some work I need done up here. I am a licenced Alaska State Electrical Journeyman and Administrator and was wondering what I would be required to do in order to wire up his home. I am having a hard time finding a website that clarifies if North Carolina Reciprocates licences, journeyman or administrators.

Most likely he will need to pull an owner builders permit and let you do the work.Not exactly legal but its likely the only way.

According to their website, North Carolina does not have a reciprocity agreement with Alaska, however as Jim and Roger said, he can pull a permit as homeowner and allow you to do the work. Probably will be no problems.

Anyways, it would take a pretty cold building department to come down on a (very qualified and licensed) son helping out his father.

You can also go through www.electric-find.com to reach North Carolina's website for electrical licensing.
You have to have:
1. 6 years of experience. That can be very hard for a young person to get.
2. You have to have $25,000 or $75,000 in bonding for small or intermediate projects.
3. You cannot have delinquent income taxes.
4. You have to have $6,000 in net positive assets.
There are a lot of places that have similar requirements. Virginia requires 5 years experience and you must have $15,000 in net positive assets to do any project worth more than $1,000. Tennessee requires net positive assets in the amount of 10% or the largest project that you want to do - I stopped reading the application when I saw that because I will not be rich until I am 60 years old.
