Customer called with odd question. Odd in that I had no answer whatsoever.

His electric blanket does not work on his inverter style generator he bought for use with camper. Thought he would just buy new one. Nope. Many Curling irons etc, have instructions saying they will not work on those style of generator.

Why?

Good question. Seem odd as simple resistance load would seem to be the least likely load to to cause issues.

My guess is that the appliance leakage current interrupter (ALCI) in the plug is getting tripped by noise from the inverter.

What size generator?
the blanket along with other stuff probably pulls the voltages below 108 volts and shuts the unit off.

The blanket may be too much for the invertor.
what size was it?
It could be a 1500W invertor generator for all we know.

The other common problem, particularly with electronically controlled loads, is that when operating in "eco" mode with the motor idling until a load is seen they cannot trip the generator to deliver full voltage. This happens when the low voltage output of the generator, used to test for presence of load, will not drive the electronics to the point where the main load is energized. Similar problems occur when the load, such as an LED or CFL light source, has a minimum operating voltage.
Not likely to be the OP's problem, but worth mentioning.

PS: Electric blankets are usually not a substantial wattage load.
