Why we cannot use 2 1/2" Conduit - HDPE, Wave-Rib Flexible Continuous Duct (Coiled/Reeled), schedule 40, red in color, rated for direct burial and 90 C conductor that the utility company use for service entrance conductors for a subpanel feed?
I installed the above from the pedestal to a 200 amps service and I asked the inspector to use the left over (about 30') to run it - underground, with the proper risers - to a 100 amps subpanel. I know it is not listed, but it sound burocratic that it can be use to run 4.0 AL SE and not copper feeders or any conductors for the subpanel. Inspector stated that soft core must not be use??????
 
So are you saying that you've used HDPE conduit but it wasn't listed as required by 353.6?

Clarification to Infinity:Here in Tucson, AZ, the utility company require (mandatory) the following aproved duct types:2 1/2" Conduit - PVC electric grade, Schedule 40 conduit for direct burial installation, manufactured to NEMA TC-2 specification and rated for 90 C Conductors ....OR ......2 1/2" Conduit - HDPE, "Wave-Rib" Flexible Continuous Duct (Coiled/Reeled), this conduit shall be Schedule 40, red in color (interior and exterior) and rated for direct burial and 90 C conductor. Those Ducts (either one) must contain a polyproplene pull rope of 5/16" min. diameter installed to pull a steel mandrel no more than 0.50" smaller than the inside diameter of the ducts.

Clarification to Georgestolz: The riser shall be 2 1/2" and bends and sweeps shall be factory bent...36" x 90 degree, 48" x 45 and 12'-6" x 45.

Infinity, I just checked the 2005 code...Article 353 and the HDPE is LISTED!, thanks Infinity.... I am going to have it with that inspector
 
Electrical equipment is only acceptable if it is approved. Most equipment is NOT required to be listed (there are many exceptions) but everything must be approved. Approved means "acceptable to the Authority Having Jurisdiction". If this installation is not acceptable to the Inspector AND the Inspector is the AHJ in your jurisdiction, then he is within his authority to reject it. He should have a very good reason for rejecting listed equipment, but he may do so.

Hi Ryan - 618, the conduit must be underground and it attach to the risers by a sherlock coupler ( MFG Catalog Description: 1-401653\SHERLOCK COUPLER SL602C250) at both ends of the risers.

Hi Haskindm, by law.... if it is aproved by the NEC...for me it is aceptable....if the AHJ does not like it .... it is his problem...I fougth the AHJ many times with the law (NEC) in my side and convince them...and if I have to involve the attorney I won't hesitate to use him......I follow the NEC and I hate to lose time with red tape....

Now...if I work in a jurisdiction, were it use the 2002 NEC and I applied "some" of 2005 NEC..why it should be rejected?....I don't accept it!...for me it is unacceptable that some jurisdictions still on 2002 and even in 1999 Nec....

Your missing haskindm's point. The NEC does not approve anything. In fact it states just what haskindm stated. ...paraphrase... It is only acceptable if approved. Definition of approved: Acceptable to the authority having jurisdiction.

The NEC adopted by your jurisdiction is the one you are stuck with. Be it 1999 or even 1996. You can try and use a later version, but the AHJ is not bound by law to accept it.

Timley adoption of Codes is a good thing and I'm all for it, but we live in an imperfect world.
