Been many years since my schooling. I rent a mobile home. Last week one of the wires coming from the meter base burnt off at the main disconnect outside on the pole. I replaced the 100amp disconnect. I then found that oven was wired with 10gauge!!! and one of the terminals was burnt also.
After replacing that with 6 gauge I decided to take actual amp readings for all major appliances individually. The total of all comes to 101.9 amps times 125% comes to 127.3 amps.
Like I said the service is only 100amp service. it seems to me that it undersized! Am I right? Knowing that all circuits wont be used all at the same time will I be safe? Also i might ad that the electric oven was added to replace a gas range.

Re: Not Sure- Am I Correct?

Chances are, your service is just fine. An actual calculation would include demand factors which reduces the calculated load to a more realistic amount of load that the service would see at any given time.

Review Article 220 and perform an actual calculation.

Re: Not Sure- Am I Correct?

I am closing this thread. This Forum is intended to assist professional electricians, inspectors, engineers, and other members of the electrical industry in the performance of their job-related tasks.

You are welcome to use this Forum to learn whatever you want to learn, but we cannot offer advice or assistance on performing electrical installation work at your own home. Our concern is that you may get only the answer to the question that you ask, and get no answer to the thousand other questions that you should have asked, but did not know that you needed to ask. The thousand of other questions are the ones that electricians, electrical engineers, and other professionals in the electrical industry would have known about, and would have understood the answers to, as part of their years of training.

I can't tell from your description whether anything you did was done correctly. The Forum rules do not permit me to ask any detailed questions and give you and further suggestions. Bryan's statement is about all we an give you. The fact that you measured more than 100 amps does not prove that your service is undersized. It might be; it might not be. It is clear that you have done some reading into the NEC. It is also clear that you did not correctly interpret what you have read. If you need to know more, then I suggest you contact an electrician.
