Costco is very fond of SO cord drops terminated into 4S boxes. The top side is usually zip tied to a roof truss, draped over sharp metal, or hanging directly from its twist lock plug. The bottom side, well here you go. I didnt know the kellems grips were rated for cord as well as individual conductors

And i was at a lake a couple weeks ago. They have this nice walkway along the shore with stores and restaurants, and festoon lighting supported by metal poles attached to a metal railing. Here is how they power it. I am sure a short to the metal pole with 600' of #12 between it and the breaker would pull enough current to trip the breaker

That is pretty typical in big box stores, though lately I've noticed that hack set up is being replaced with the pull down cord reels or a pre fab system that you commonly see in Lowes.

I didn't know they were rated for individual conductors; I've only seen them used on cords.

Same here. That guy thought the kellems grip would make a fine strain relief fitting. Maybe Costco should send their guys to Lowes to see how they do it?

I just looked again and noticed several inches of individual conductors outside the box. Now I get the OP's point.

yeah, and if someone steps on it i bet the wire in the grip could go right through the insulation on the conductors. I was going to say something to the mgr, but he was busy arguing with another customer over the warranty on a washing machine or something......i gave up...

i know there have been some discussions about the types of boxes used on cord drops, and i thought the consensus was that its not kosher to use a stamped box in this fashion.
