I purchased a Hunter Ellipse? Model # 90064 bath fan for a renovation we are doing.

We are up to the trim out on the job and now I am looking for a device to operate/control the 90064.

The 90064's manual states:
CONTROLS DESIGNED
FOR USE WITH THIS PRODUCT
27179 RF Fan/Light Control with 5/10/20
minute delay/off

....however, the 27179's manual states:
Control will NOT operate nightlight on models:

90064

The 27179 does not have a 3rd switch for nightlight operation!

The 27179's manual states that:
Note: This wall control unit is designed for use with Hunter? Bath Fan products only (except for Hunter? models 90050/90051).
If you have a bath fan unit with a night-light, the night-light must be wired on a separate switch or the night-light will be disabled.

The box that was roughed in is a singlegang fitted inbetween some studs ~ soil stack hogs up most of the space on that wall, tile is up, walls are painted, etc...

Now what?
There isn't any room for "a separate switch"....and I don't think the customer is looking to "renovate" again

I suppose something like this would work:

..but there is no timer.

Anyone know of a combination switch that will:
- time the fan in 5-10-20 minute increments(or some timed operation)
- operate a light
- operate a nightlight
- ALL on 1 yoke?

...and it's got to be WHITE.

When you installed the rough-in box for this fan, were the installation instructions available in the box? I know most electricians do not like to read the instructions. When installing a piece of equipment for the first time it does help to read them.
Sorry this is no help to you, it may help new guys to start reading the instructions though.
Good luck in finding the switch.

Funny thing is - the fan instructions make no mention of what the switching requirements are (as far as number of switches).

The instructions say to use the 27179 switch.
You don't find out that the 27179 switch is "incompatible" until you buy it/acces the instructions online - then you find out that you need to add an additional switch and probably a box.

I think I'll have a better chance of hitting the lottery for a few million.

I'll see what Hunter says tom'row.

Thanks.

You might put the fancy switch in over a regular single pole for the primary light. Then the fancy switch can operate the fan/nightlight, and it's elevated location in the same bay might not be too offensive.

The normally used switch (the primary light) would be less annoying as a regular switch. I put a fancy dimmer in my bedroom, and I curse the stupid thing every time I walk in there; I can't just walk in and slap the wall like the rest of the house, I've got to be careful. I hate that.

Food for thought. :)

I was thinking....
...use one switch for the fan&light combination
..use the other for the NL.
Unfortunatly, the NL could be then be timed.
I'll have to (gasp  ) read these instructions.

Looking at the picture of the switch, it appears the slider can be set to "Fan Only" for the timer, from the looks of it. So the NL could be on full time (by the "light" button), and the "delay" button might just turn the fan on for 5, 13, or 20 minutes.

But that's just a guess. I know I ain't looking at no stinkin' directions! :D

I ran into something like this last year. Homeowner bought the light/fan device, and I wasn't about to go looking for the switch that would control all three items. Before I installed it, I just told the customer that there were more wires than switches, so I'd have to double up some stuff or leave some stuff unconnected. I don't remember what we decided on, but the customer was OK with it. He must not have been too unhappy, as he just hired me for another project on his house. :D

Are you sure that you need a switch for the night light? It's only 7 Watt and was probably deigned so that you will have enough light to figure out how to turn on the real light. I would hook up the night light un-switched. If the bathroom doesn't have a window ( exposure to day light ) it would be needed around the clock.

The NL is primarily for the customer's kids to see thier way into the bathroom at night and to offer a little "comfort" as the NL will on all night.
The bath does have a window, with plenty of DAYlight - but pitch black at night.

I'll run the options by the customer and see what they want to do.

Thanks for the replies :)

Thank you so much for your inquiry.
We are not currently offering a control that provides separate night
light control. The home would need a separate wire/switch for separate
night light control.
If you need further assistance, please phone our
Consumer Services Department toll free at .....

It would have been nice to know that Hunter doesn't have a switch in a single gang flavor DURING rough-in stage - instead of saying use the 27179~which doesn't even have a 3rd switch for the NL

I installed one in an retrofit. The original had thhn run down the wall into a switchbox with the back cut out. Customer bought this type to replace old one. Explained to him how we needed more switches and he told me to tie everything together and use one switch.

So he has one switch to turn on the lights, fan, and night light.

On a side note. Make sure you put in the right bulbs or the cover will not fit. Wasted a fair amount of time before I found that out!
