Inquiry.

April newletter statement:

Q4. The 2005 NEC now requires all 15 and 20A, 125V receptacles located within 6 ft from the dwelling unit laundry sink to be GFCI protected. Does this apply to a single receptacle on a dedicated branch circuit for the washing machine?

A4. Yes. See 210.8(A)(7).

Nuisance trips with the washing machine on a 20A GFCI. Suggestions.. comments?

Re: nuisance trips

I do know one resolve to prevent nuisance trips and have a feeling it will likely sweep threw the industry (including homeowners tired of the trips)

I suspect those +20% faulty GFI recepticles will be used. Not that I condone such activity but can clearly see it happening.

Re: nuisance trips

I think you'll find most folks will install the receptacle for the washing machine farther than 6' from the outside edge of the sink. Maybe 6'-1" away, so it still serves the intended purpose.

"Laundry, utility, and wet bar sinks ? where the receptacles are installed within 1.8 m (6 ft) of the outside edge of the sink"

Re: nuisance trips

I agree with you Ron for new construction. You actually got me to head to the basement and measure out the total distance from outside of sink to outside edge of dryer noting the washer cord is 5' it will reach a recepticle placed at 6'1'' from basin.. however the washers drain hose gets pretty close to its maximum and must cross the dryers recepticle unless that too was relocated.

But what I really was shooting at was replacing an existing recepticle with a GFI and avoiding trips.
