Does anyone know if the NEC permits more than one over current device between the meter and the service panel in a residental intstallation? I have a 200 amp service with a 200 amp circuit breaker at the load side of the meter feeding a panel with a 200 amp main breaker? Is this a violation? A home inspector seems to think so.

The first 200A breaker is the "service disconnect"
and the second breaker is a disconnect for the sub-panel. You can have as many breakers as you want on the load side of the main service disconnect.
