I'm doing a fire pump project in NYC

The electrician is arguing with me and saying the jockey pump should be treated like fire pumps according to "NYC code"
Because I told him to grab power from a local panelboard for the jockey pump and that it is not required to be on the fire pump circuit

Is this true?

695.1(B) Not Covered
(2) Pressure maintenance (jockey or makeup) pumps.

I don't see anything in the NYC amendments that changes that.

I don't even see anything in the building code or any code at all either. If anybody finds anything please let me know.

Jockey pumps are not a critical load like the fire pump. The sprinkler system will work even if the jockey pump fails. You are allowed to feed it from the fire pump service but not required to.

People think it's in the code because it's often done that way. It's hard to prove things are not in the code.

You can tap jockey pump ahead of fire pump controller.
You also can feed jockey pump from panel.
I do not see any problem.
I do EPR (advisory board drawing), and it never has issue.
