Have some large feeders(load side) running from distribution gear in one building in duct banks( about 200') to another building where we are intercepting existing risers in a splice box(#500 mcm). Would any OCPD be required in the new building near the splices or the distribution gear is fine? Thanks.

As long as they are not taps, you do not need another OCPD. You might need a disconnect however.

Thanks. Why/when would you possibly need a disconnect?

you generally need a disconnect at/near the point of entry for a feeder supplying a building, similar to if it was a service. There are some exceptions where the disconnect can be remote. Sorry I cant give a code section right now, gotta run.
