Odd GFCI receptacle

In a commercial kitchen environment I ran into duplex 20A GFCI receptacles that incorporated a small white light that indicate its tripped/non-tripped status. The odd thing about was that the light is on when the GFCI is tripped and off when it's not tripped. That struck me as backwards from what one would normally expect; when equipment is on the on/off indicator is lit, when it is off, the indicator is out.
Now, I don't think that this is an NEC issue but what are your feeling about such a GFCI receptacle?
