I'm just curious what the test is like in Ohio. I'm a licensed Master Electrician in Colorado, so obviously I have passed the exam in this state. I would say the master exam is pretty tough here, but I did pass without any classes- just studying on my own. I would best describe the CO ME test as 65% a NEC easter egg hunt, and 35% calculations. It's 100 open-book questions to be completed in 4 1/2 hours. Is the Ohio test similar? From what I've read, there are no JW or M licenses in Ohio? (Scary!) Is this true? Thank goodness the state at least makes people take an exam to be a contractor. I shudder at the thought of unlicensed electricians in Colorado.

I'm not sure I would necessarily want to be a full-time EC in Ohio, but I'd like to keep my options open. The bleak outlook here in Colorado might force me to move back to Ohio where my family lives, so I'm starting to consider out-of-state options.

It's been over a decade, but I think the 65:35 ratio might be reasonable, and the test was half open book and half closed. Licensed by the state, and register in each town / city / county that you will work in. Could be better, could be worse.

Ohio Masters Exam.....

Ohio Masters Exam.....

15% General Knowledge, 65% NEC, 5% OSHA. Not too bad, I scored a 89 on the test. I can't imagine that Colorado is worse than Ohio. Don't move back, you can visit your family on vacation.
