My company has years of old ballasts lying around. We are going through some spring cleaning and would like to dispose of them. We mostly install built-in LED fixtures now, so it’s rare for us to replace a ballast and don’t need so many.

How do you dispose of your old ballasts? Do you know of any way to scrap them for money? If not, someone who will take them off our hands for free. Thanks for the help!

Local scrapyard has a bin for them, no pay, no charge, been getting rid of mine, I cut off the leads and add them to the insulated wire pile then drop off the ballasts.

I contacted my local scrap yard and they’ll pay 10 cents per pound for old ballasts. We probably have a couple hundred pounds worth, so I’ll head over there when I have a chance. Thanks for the advice.

Guy at the scrap yard also recommend cutting off the wires because they’re going for 80 cents per pound for insulated copper.
