Can somebody shoot me in the right direction for this to see if it’s prohibited or not.
Old lodge that houses 4H scouts from time to time. Has two circuits in the bathroom for lighting, one extends out info the sleeping area for general purpose receptacle. Which the staff has had a extension cord run from to go out the window to a little room that houses that hot water tank and portable heaters to keep pipes from freezing.
I went ahead and roughed in a light and couple receptacles (GFCI) for them to have for your accessories out there. Now needing to get a single circuit out there to power it.
1. Was thinking about going ahead and tapping into one of the circuits in the bathroom which has been feeding with temporary power via the extension cord. That would be the cheapest and fastest method knowing the route and knowing that the circuit has capacity to do what they need it to.
Problem is I removed a light to see about the wiring and it is old 2-wire cloth and paper insulated wire with no EGC. Are you allowed to extend or tap off of that if I were to install GFCI CB.
If not will just have to tough it out get a brand new circuit out there. Would do that to begin with but distribution panel is in the upstairs and gonna be a fun time trying to do but have some ideas.
2.Should this be treated as a dwelling? If so I know I need to go a different route.
These buildings were built around the 1920s. And have had renovations and service and panel upgrades (still not up to par) and I don’t wanna add to the problem of these sketchy buildings anyways.
